Dear Families
This week I hosted a series of events including Year 9 options, Year 11 options and secondary residential trips information. A big thank you to all those parents who attended and I hope you found it useful.
Today we had our annual Primary Grandparent's event. An incredible event and so nice to see many families join the event and celebrate the work of their children and grandchildren.
As you know the safety and security of your children is the number one priority. Each year we commission and expert company to come to school to renew first aid training and lifeguard training for all our PE staff. In addition, they will visit the school twice a year to test our equipment, test our emergency procedures and practice scenarios with our staff. This helps to ensure confidence in our water safety with your children.
We understand internet and social media security is an important issue for everyone. Next week we are flying in a worldwide expert on this topic to speak with staff, students and parents. This will be a great opportunity to hear from and get good advice from a leading expert in this field of work.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
Ms. Giang Pham will be leaving her role as PA to the Head of Primary from Monday, 15th September. We thank her for 12 years of contributions and wish her all the best.
Ms. Linh Nguyen has now taken over this role and looks forward to supporting our Primary community. You can reach her at linh.nguyenthithuy@bvishanoi.com, ext. 131, or visit Room P.136.
Congratulations to Vu Thai Duong LE, Nguyen Nam Khanh LE, Minh Van PHAM for being finalists in the EWC! The Economics world cup is an Economics competition hosted by the University of Oxford - There are over 100 schools and 1000 students who entered the competition and our students made it to the final round of 10 teams.
Two students have given their views on A-level and IGCSE history.
Here’s what Tran Le Quynh Anh has said:
During the last few weeks in history, we learnt about The Roaring Twenties. We covered topics like The Economic Boom and Entertainment in the 1920s, both of which i really enjoyed learning about. I think the Roaring Twenties is such an intriguing topic because it was a huge development period in USA; people had new lifestyles, new technology, and the economy was thriving. I loved learning about media at the time, specifically films and movies. The 1920s was when American film developed into a booming industry with the rise of Hollywood and the transition from silent to sound film. Film stars like Clara Bow, Rudolf Valentino, and Charlie Chaplin became national icons, influencing the Flapper culture and many new fashion trends. Overall, i love doing history for IGSCE and I am excited for future lessons.
And from Nguyen Huong Giang:
My first few weeks of A-Level history have been amazing so far. My teachers are delightful and classmates share the same passion and curiosity for history as me, making the classroom’s atmosphere really fun. We are learning about the French Revolution and Russian Revolution. Because the historical context is really complex, we get to further explore philosophies and ideologies. My enthusiasm is often reflected in my note-taking and it is not strange that many pages of my history book have been filled!
From 22nd to 26th September, the Maths Department will be hosting a FOBISIA Codebreaking Competition during KS3 Maths lessons. Students will have the chance to explore the fascinating mathematics behind codebreaking through a series of exciting challenges.
KS4 and KS5 students are also welcome to take part by completing the challenges independently at home.
These activities are designed to sharpen problem-solving skills and develop logical thinking in a fun and engaging way. For more information, please visit: https://schoolcodebreaking.com/
So far, the environment committee has:
• Placed recycling bins in every classroom and a large central bin outside the uniform classroom.
• Decorated the environment board with posters on recycling and home practices.
• Installed reminders about responsible electricity use next to light switches and air conditioners.
• Held a school-wide assembly on recycling, with interactive discussions and information flyers.
Their upcoming plans include:
• Deliver PSHE lessons with interactive PowerPoints on sustainability, recycling methods, and waste reduction.
• Launch a tree-planting campaign to beautify grounds and educate on trees’ ecological value.
• Host workshops and invite local environmental groups to inspire broader participation.
• Their long-term goals are:
• Work toward Green Flag eco-school accreditation.
• Foster an environmentally conscious culture within the school.
Ms Zerrin is excited to share how well Year 7 students are settling into their lessons! They’re diving into binary, collaborating and sharing ideas, fostering a supportive learning environment. She can’t wait to see their continued growth this year!
