Our Moon Festival celebration was a perfect example of what being a global citizen with a Vietnamese perspective means at BVIS. The children and staff, from Vietnam and from further afield were united in the joyful celebration, donning beautiful Ao Dai and enjoying the music, dance, art and traditional crafts that featured in this very special day.

One moment that made me smile was seeing British teacher and Head of Y5, Mr Phil, on the guitar accompanying all the children singing beautifully in Vietnamese.

Another thing that gave me great pleasure was the exceptionally high attendance at the event by parents and grandparents. It was a joy for me to move around every class in the school and see so many families joining in as one community together. The variety of activities across year groups was interesting too.

The Early Years Centre was an array of colour, songs and celebration during the Moon Festival. Celebrations are an important part of culture and heritage and help children to understand their identity and belonging.

Year 1 had a lot of fun participating in different Moon festival activities last week. The children were very lucky to have students from Year 13 visit. They listened to a story about the festival then made some lovely lanterns and masks. All of the children had a great time working with older students.

Year 2 parents were excited to see the children perform in the hall and share with their parents their great dancing and singing last week. There were many lanterns made by collaboration between parents and children.
