New in Panama? Here’s what your first 90 days at the MET look like - New in Panama
New in Panama
From the moment your family joins our community, we work to make the transition smooth, joyful, and full of connection. Whether it’s your child’s first day at school or your first weekend exploring Panama, the MET helps you settle in and start enjoying your new life right away.

Here’s what the first 90 days typically look like for families at the MET.
Weeks 1–4: Feeling welcome from day one

The first few weeks are all about connection. Students in Secondary are paired with buddies who help them navigate their schedule, meet classmates, and feel at ease. In Early Childhood and Elementary, homeroom teachers guide students through their routines and provide consistent support throughout the day.

Parents are also welcomed through orientation sessions, informal meetups, and opportunities to connect with the MET Parent Council. From the very beginning, families start building relationships, receiving guidance, and discovering that Panama can feel like home sooner than expected.

Weeks 5–8: Getting involved and finding your flow

As students settle into their routines, they begin to explore the full range of opportunities at the MET. This is when many start joining:

1. Athletics sessions
2. Student clubs and interest-based groups
3. Student Council, where learners take on leadership roles
4. Service learning and community engagement projects

These activities help students connect with peers, discover new interests, and feel part of something meaningful. Families also begin to engage more with the school community, attending events and getting involved in everyday life.

Weeks 9–12: Building friendships and feeling at home

By the third month, most families feel settled, not just in school, but in Panama. Students have made friends, joined activities, and found their rhythm. Parents often share that their children begin to truly enjoy school.

Thanks to the support and connections built through the MET, families start exploring Panama with confidence. Whether it’s weekend outings, cultural events, or simply knowing where to shop or eat, the MET community helps make the experience enjoyable from the start.

Tips from MET Families

Here are a few things that have helped families adjust quickly:
1. Attend orientation events, even the informal ones.
2. Ask questions. Teachers, staff, and other parents are happy to help.
3. Encourage your child to try new activities early on.
4. Stay connected through WhatsApp groups with the MET Parent Council and your class representatives.
5. Give yourselves time. Adjustment is a process, not a race.
